While chlorine keeps swimming pools germ-free, this chemical can irritate the skin, resulting in a rash or Contact dermatitis. Symptoms include dryness, burning sensation, cracked skin and itchy reddish patches or bumps.

Treat contact dermatitis
While contact dermatitis from chlorine may not be prevented as long as you are still getting into the pool, its symptoms can be treated. Wash the skin with clean water immediately after swimming to remove chlorine’s irritants.  Cortisone cream may prescribe to stop itching.  Neutralizing lotions and moist, cold compresses may also offer relief.
